Programs
The mission of the Library and Literacy Foundation for
San Joaquin County is to support programs in our
communities that foster literacy and promote the power
of reading to enrich lives.
2010-11 Literacy Programs Funded
Library Support
â
The Foundation supplements funding for
library books so that resources continue to be available for
the entire community during lean economic times.
Summer Reading Club
â Children track the number of books
they read and are rewarded for meeting summer reading goals.
Early Learning with Families
â Parent/child
workshops for young children to engage in play with
age-appropriate manipulative, board books and story times.
Experts on childhood issues talk informally with parents and
answer questions.
One Book, One San
Joaquin
â A countywide reading campaign, has
the goal of cultivating a love for classic novels, improving
our communityâs literacy rate, and showcasing the way in
which organizations can work together for a good cause

Reach out and Read®
makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric
primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love
of reading.
